Maat Fight - {Too Weak}

So after hearing a lot of my PLD friends say they had to fight multiple times and spend hours getting testimonies, I was uhhh... very nervous going into this fight. I had heard it was pretty easy except if he did any Asuran Fists and you were not prepared for that.

Anyways... So my hands were shaking as I traded the Testimony to him and was warped to the Fei'Yin BCNM. A group of people were there doing BCNM 70s and they cheered me on.

I went in with this gear:

Weapon: Decided to go with my Espadon for faster TP gain and higher attack than my Gluttony because I wanted to kill him asap.

Shield: General's Shield

Head: AF

Neck: Opo-Opo Necklace (then switched to Iron Musketeer Gorget after TP gain)

Earrings: Mercenary Earring, Drone Earring

Body: AF, was tempted to get an Assault Jerkin before fight, but... meh.

Hands: AF

Rings: VIT+3 one (Can't think of the name...), Jelly Ring

Legs: AF

Back: Beak Mantle +1

Belt: Life Belt (was tempted to use RSE Belt or Warriors +1 for the HP and def, but I wanted ACC for Vorpal Blade).

Feet: AF

So... I pretty much kept my regular EXPing gear except for the Espadon and Life Belt (which I sometimes use in exp pts depending on how the party is setup...)

So I went in, Protect IVed, Shell IIIed, popped a Yag Juice, slept to 100% TP with Opo-Opo Necklace... Switched to Iron Musketeer Gorget after getting the TP. Ran up to him and engaged, used Vorpal Blade right away for about 100-150 dmg. When I saw that, I was kinda sad until I realized how much it took off of his life (I think he has about 1k HP or so). He started casting Banish III, so I shield bashed it. Is it me, or does he always start with Banish 3? Everytime I see a log or video, he starts off with that or Flash. Anyways. So I gain TP, keep using Vorpal Blade... He misses me quite a bit, but averages hitting me for 70-100 per hit.

When he 2 houred, I just spammed Hi-Potions and cures. This entire time, I was just waiting for the Asuran Fists which I knew would certainly own me.. or at least SOME WS. So after that, I kept using Vorpal Blade, and when he was about 40% HP, I realized I had forgot to use food! >:O :mad: So I popped a meat and my hits were doing more, and my last Vorpal Blade killed him with 356dmg. O_o;; I thought that was a lot considering he only has like 1000hp. But I think I was very lucky in my fight. :sweat: He never did Asuran Fists or ANY WS for that matter. He only whacked at me, did Maat Bash a few times, Banish 3 a few times... and that was it. No WSs, no Holy... I never even had to Invincible. Maat was a wuss for me.

The record time on my server at that time was 5 mins, 50 seconds... I beat him in 6 mins, 9 seconds so... If I hadn't slept, I MIGHT could have beat the record, but I wasn't going to chance it.

Here are the items I bought:

Protect IV: 80k
Icarus Wing: 6k
20 Hi-Potions: 1.5k each
Vile Elixir: 25k (never used, sold back)
3 Yag Drinks: 1.5k each
4 Sleeping Potions: 2.2k each
Opo-Opo Necklace: Friend loaned me one

So I just wanted to tell people how my fight went and hope it helps anyone who is doing it soon. I was dreading the fight and yet looking forward to it at the same time... Now it's over, I'm glad. lol But I DID get another Pld. Testimony helping someone with coffer keys, so I might go again for fun (someone told me you could... I dunno.).

I still recommend that PLD just use GS on Maat. You can kill him easily without any potions that way. 2 Spinning Slashes off the bat take him to 30% HP.

Ok, but are you saying that SS is more accurate and will do the proper dmg compare to any other WS that we have?

Definitely. Maat is even match.. with Life Belt and RG Collar you won't miss a Spinning Slash on him. Vorpal does 100-350 damage, but the high damage requires a lot of luck (all hits landing and crits), Swift does 150-300 (generally around 200). Spinning Slash did 350-450 damage on Maat when I fought him, whereas Swift only did 150ish. I would have killed him in record time but he put up his darn 2hr :angel: Maat only spams WS the longer you fight him, so it's in your best interest to just go all out and kill him ASAP instead of trying to last the long run. I only cured myself a few times, used maybe 2-3 potions (which were unneeded seeing as I won with plenty of HP) and didn't use 2hr.

I actually switched from Flamberge to Joyeuse after the two initial GS's but that was a bad idea. If I could fight him again I'd just use GS the entire time.

Does anyone know a link to the a video of the Paladin Maat fight? I've checked the video forum here and lots of other FFXI video sites, and just figured I'd ask here before I made a formal request.
